#71 Makeup En-Counters of a Third Kind

Hello Beautiful Lifers,

Have you ever gone shopping for makeup whether at a department store counter, or, at a CVS, only to go home, try it on and think to yourself “what was I thinking?”.

Makeup colors can be very tricky, as a professional makeup artist, I’ve been studying color and in particular, makeup colors and which looks best on which skin tone.  But, one thing, I found is that all makeup is NOT created equal.  Nor, are the treatment products.

Today I will cover how to find the right colors for your skin’s temperature and how to find your skin’s temperature now.

So, what do you do when you went to the store and purchased all these goodies?  Well, the first thing I want you to do BEFORE you go to the counter to purchase your goodies is to ask them their return policy for makeup.

Most places you can return open makeup products as long as you let them know you have opened and tried the product.  This will be sure that it doesn’t end up back in the aisle.

I had a friend who never took anything back to the store to return items.  It made me crazy.  To think she wasted hundreds of dollars and left it for them to have.  She’d never wear the clothes she bought that she didn’t like, or, any makeup or skincare (even expensive perfumes).  These all can be returned.  Again, just double check with the store’s policies and you’ll know.

Whatever you do, do not use the samples that they put out on the counters.  There are a gazillion of bacteria that get into them.  Purchase the item and if you don’t like it, be sure to return it.

I also cover some ways on how to beat S.A.D. (Seasonal Affective Disorder) (yes, it’s a real thing) and make your winter feel less dreary.

So grab your favorite pair of ear buds, your favorite beverage and pop on over.  I’ll see you inside.

Cheers,

Dawn-Marie

Bath or Shower – Which Do You Prefer?

In my early days when I rented a couple of my apartments in Brooklyn, I didn’t have a bathtub in the studio apartment.  It only had a shower stall and the bathrooms were super tiny.

Then I moved into a one bedroom in Bath Beach and I actually had a tub again.  I had missed out on using the bathtub which I desperately needed with all of the aches and pains from my injuries from the car accidents and fall into the sinkhole and a shower never quite helped me the way soaking in some Epsom salts in a bathtub would.

Are you a fan of taking baths?  If not, why not?  I know some people have never stepped into a bathtub, yet, I am still baffled by this.  Why wouldn’t you want to soak the stress of the day away?

One of the things I love to do is to add fragrance oils as well as salts and bubbles to make this oasis concoction and help me unwind and relax.

Some of my favorite oils to use are:

LAVENDER OIL

L’Occitane Moisturizing Cream

L’Occitane Verbena Shower Gel

And, I love to add a facial and hair masque to make the treatment complete.  Here are some of my favorites:

BUMBLE AND BUMBLE HAIR MASK

Origins Mask

LaMer Face Moisturizer

Be sure when you pop out of your shower or bath that you moisturize your skin immediately — this will lock in and seal the moisture into your skin.

This is something my mom taught me when I was 11 and have done it every day of my life since.

Well, I hope you’ll change your mind if you’ve never taken baths before and join us millions who do.  And, for those of you already taking luxurious baths, please continue and enjoy the rest and relaxation it provides.

Happy bathing!

Remember to live happily, lovingly, peacefully, successfully, necessarily and luxuriously.

Love,

Dawn-Marie
